I’ve been to far too many family funerals in the past couple of years.
When my time is up (far, far from now) I hope that whoever speaks offers the listeners a message of acceptance and peace — not one of fire and brimstone, not one of conditional love through unconditional allegiance.
Take care of each other, y’all
@zachleat if you have a will, add that. Make sure your wishes are known. So many people don’t.
@zachleat my condolences :(
@zachleat I’m sorry for your losses, Zach
@zachleat That’s partially why we opted to celebrate my mom through photos, her artwork, and inviting people to come and go at a favorite place of hers (local botanical gardens) with no speeches or formal service at all.
@zachleat 2024 saw me attend a startling number of funerals for the parents of my friends. Most were celebrations of the deceased’s life. One in particular contained very little about the person we were there to honour, but it was all about god’s mercy and love and benevolence…. For someone who died in agony from cancer — something I wouldn’t wish on anyone.
